There is no greater sacrifice than for one to give their life in the line of duty. The Florida Fire Service will always remember our fallen brothers and sisters.
Each year, the Florida Joint Council of Fire and Emergency Services (Joint Council) and the Division of State Fire Marshal hosts the Fallen Firefighter Memorial service at the Florida State Fire College in Ocala. This annual event is scheduled for the 3rd Friday of November. An additional recognition is held at the State Capitol during the annual Legislative session. These events honor the families of our fallen heroes with a traditional fire service presentation of gratitude for their ultimate sacrifice. The ceremonies include pipe and drum units, honor guard representation from all over Florida and a large contingent of fire service leadership. Each family is presented with a memorial medallion and a flag in honor of their loved one at the Ocala service and the names of the Fallen are engraved in granite tablets surrounding the memorials in both Ocala and Tallahassee.
